Burrito Bison: Launcha Libre 3.71

Kongregate strikes again! Their unmistakable graphical style is on full display in Burrito Bison. Every character and power icon is worthy of being put on a custom playing card and displayed on Kickstarter to get 5mil in no time. I'm surprised Kongregate hasn't tried this yet. In any case, El Burrito Bison is a top luchador from México. I'd say he's THE TOP luchador the country has ever seen. Luck has it that this disaster happened while he's still in his prime.

What disaster, you might ask? Haven't you heard? The gummy bears have escaped the factory, and now they're taking over. It's up for Burrito and his friends to get into the ring and sort this mess out.

Of course, the ring business is only a pretext. With a well-aimed lounge, our hero can propel himself out and into the streets, bouncing off and squishing those dreaded gummy fiends for as long as it's superhumanly possible. Hitting (not necessarily) soft targets will help Burrito bounce and continue on his rampage, but kissing the dirt only serves to slow him down; unless you've applied enough slippery lotion of course.

Squishing gummy bears gives you coins, which you can spend to unlock and upgrade various abilities, such as stronger ring cables, more powerful rocket slam and so on. Oh yes, El Burrito Bison has two miniature rockets strapped to his luchador pants. You can tap to engage these whenever you feel you might miss a juicy target underneath. Careful though, as the fuel supply is often insufficient. You can only use the rocket slam twice per run at most unless you upgrade it.

Beyond upgrades, you can unlock various types of gummy bears, bosses, and even new characters. The game is slow at first, but the longer you toil, or the more real cash you pour in, the quicker you'll advance through the environments and challenges. Kongregate made Burrito Bison: Launcha Libre in such a way that adverts do not disturb the game at all, nor is there an obvious impediment of playing without dishing out your hard earned money. However, the prices in the app are somewhat steep. That wouldn't be a problem if one can draw enough enjoyment from this little product, but still, all of the permanent upgrades rival the price of an AAA video game.

Final Thoughts

Burrito Bison: Launcha Libre is a suitable replacement for when you've had enough of playing Angry Birds or similar titles. The gameplay resembles a slot machine more than an archery range, so you can relax this time and enjoy the bouncing. Artistically speaking, Burrito Bison has a great soundtrack, decent sounds, and cutesy graphics that don't shy away from making a bit of political commentary as you'll probably notice. I highly recommend you try Burrito Bison. It is well polished and can draw a few smiles, unless you're deeply offended by the theme, of course.
